On one of our summers days, LEFARS my local club organised a field weekend and it was sunny. The idea was to play some radio in the sun, with multiple stations operating from in the hired field.
Members were advised to use band pass filters, this helps keep things friendly to multiple operators. The weekend coincided with IOTA (planned) so we knew the bands would be busy.
The site is surrounded by trees, most are around 20m and so ideal for a sloper or EFHW if you can get a line over the trees. Chris G8OCV has a bow and arrow, a tried and tested way to shoot fishing line over a tree, and this resulted in me suspending the antenna from the top of a 20m tree.
Band conditions seemed OK on Saturday, although was unable to hear many DX stations, and only operated on 28, 21 and 14 MHz until the light faded. Returning back on Sunday morning propagation on HF didnt seem to be much better, and by 11.30 am even 21 MHz was producing short contacts into Scotland and Ireland?
It was nice to be outside, and I worked around 100 stations just working anyone I could hear. The station was a IC7300, 20m EFHW supported in the tree, with everything powered by V2L from the car.
I even took my filter coffee machine, that was especially nice in the morning.
It was nice to see members from TARG on this event, it really nice to collaborate with other clubs as we can share experience and make friends.
All together a very enjoyable weekend.
